Renate Thalhammer

About the artist

Renate Thalhammer was born in 1960 in Munich. Already in her childhood, she was artistically influenced by her father, the wood sculptor Georg Thalhammer. At the age of 18 she started to become an artist herself and to work with different materials. Through astrology training, she began to illustrate poetry and methological stories, and let the themes and motifs of the stories inspire her work.

Her art consists partly of drawings with oil pastels or charcoal pencils, partly of large-format or small acrylic paintings on canvas. They are "soul images", expressionistically oriented and held in the tones red-yellow-orange. In her works appear always some beings, tender or powerful, but always they are afflicted with her feelings for the present situation. Between the seamless brushwork floating figures appear. You can see female breasts and yet they are not nude, you see hands and faces and yet they are not men. While enthusiastic about nature, the artist does not intend only to reproduce nature. For her, the purpose of art is to awaken feelings and promote aesthetic awareness.
