Emil Dobriban

About the Artist

Emil Dobriban (b. 1958) lives in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. He graduated in 1988 from the Painting DepartmentUniversity of Art and Design in Cluj, where he is currently an Associate Professor. Since then he has become the member of UAP, “The Artists Union of Romania”.

Although over 25 years he painted just in color, in the last 3 years the artist has also tried a new experiment to reduce the color palette to blends of black and white, without using any other colors or chromatic contrasts. He believes in the chromatic force and expressivity of black and white. These two colors have been ignored for too long. He also believes they send a message to the human soul and the whole society as deep as all the colors of the chromatic circle.

Being only in black and white, his works can also be seen by pet animals. In the last years he has discovered the charm of colors without which no one can exist. To convey a humanist message alongside an aesthetic one his world of art is important for him.
